Jim Parsons, who has been the narrator for ‘Young Sheldon’ throughout its seven seasons, reveals that the finale on May 16 will be the first time characters from the original show will make an appearance on screen.
Parsons describes his experience of reprising his role as the socially inept genius Sheldon Cooper in the final episode of ‘Young Sheldon’, a spin-off of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, as both “strange and wonderful”.
Throughout the seven seasons of ‘Young Sheldon’, Parsons has been the narrator. The finale on May 16 will be the first time characters from the original show will be seen on screen. Parsons and his co-star from ‘The Big Bang Theory’, Mayim Bialik, will reprise their roles as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler.
When asked about his experience returning as the beloved character, Parsons shared on an episode of the Today show, “It was very strange. But also very wonderful.” The multiple Emmy winner expressed his gratitude to the creators of ‘Young Sheldon’ for inviting him and Bialik to reprise their roles.
“Big Bang Theory was always filmed in front of a live audience, while Young Sheldon is a single-camera show. I got to do it with Mayim — we both reprised our roles as Sheldon and Amy from the series — and the situation was just different enough that it didn’t feel strange.”
“It felt like, ‘What are we doing here again?!’ But instead, it was really sweet. It felt like the perfect ending to the whole experience, and I was very grateful that they asked us to do it,” Parsons added.
‘Young Sheldon’, which chronicles Sheldon Cooper’s childhood with his family in East Texas, premiered in 2017. The series was created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, and stars Iain Armitage in the title role, along with Lance Barber, Zoe Perry, and Annie Potts.
‘The Big Bang Theory’, which aired for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019, also starred Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Melissa Rauch.
